Now an integral part of Belfast FASHIONWEEK’s autumn shows, the Diet Coke Design Award is back for the third year and fashion lovers across Ireland are once again invited to submit design concepts which, if successful, could appear on the catwalk in October.
The competition, which is open to all fashionistas and stylish Diet Coke fans with a passion for fashion – not just design students - opens doors in the fashion industry by offering a top prize of a mini scholarship to the London College of Fashion. The lucky winner will also see his/her design come to life on the catwalk at Belfast FASHIONWEEK, courtesy of leading couturier Una Rodden, and have it featured in a photo shoot with top fashion photographer Khara Pringle.
Entrants will be asked to put their raw talent to work by designing a fashion forward and unique garment which captures the ‘Love it Light’ attitude of the brand. This year the fashion opportunities will be extended to three finalists instead of one straight winner as judges will shortlist three designs for Una Rodden to create and then the overall winner will be the result of online polls as well as judges’ input when it appears on the catwalk and the prize awarded live in front of the anticipating audience.
Aoife Nagle, Senior Brand Manager at Diet Coke, is excited about the new element this year; “It’s brilliant to be able to open the floor up to more up-and-coming designers by allowing three finalists to take to the stage this year. The standard has always been incredibly high and we expect competition levels to soar, given the new stakes.”
Director of FASHIONWEEK Cathy Martin added: “For anyone worried about their own design credentials, it’s important to remember that our first ever winner was a banker who loved tweaking dresses in her spare time. She worked with Una Rodden to create a catwalk-worthy, stunning dress and really enjoyed her time at London College of Fashion doing a course in Structured Lingerie.
